The President said the development reflects the success of the government’s combined strategy of military operations and rehabilitation efforts aimed at restoring peace across Nigeria.
Speaking during his address to mark Nigeria’s 27th Democracy Day celebration, Tinubu said the administration has continued to intensify military operations against insurgent and bandit groups while also providing opportunities for willing fighters to surrender and reintegrate into society.
According to the President, the government remains committed to maintaining a balance between military action and rehabilitation efforts.
“We keep the door of surrender open. Over 124,000 fighters and dependents have laid down their arms since 2023 through Operation Safe Corridor,” Tinubu stated.

The President explained that the figure demonstrates the effectiveness of the government’s security strategy, which combines sustained military pressure with reintegration programmes designed to encourage combatants to abandon violence.
Tinubu also highlighted broader security achievements recorded under his administration, including increased investment in national security, the recruitment of thousands of new police officers, and intensified operations targeting terrorist and bandit networks.
He noted that recent military successes have led to the disruption of key insurgent structures and the elimination of several high-profile terrorist commanders.
The federal government has continued to present Operation Safe Corridor as a critical component of its counterinsurgency efforts, aimed at reducing violence while promoting long-term stability and national security.
