The US birth tourism crackdown has been intensified by the United States Department of State as authorities move to stop what they describe as illegal schemes involving foreign nationals using visitor visas to give birth in the United States in order to secure citizenship for their children.

The US State Department stated that the policy is focused on protecting the integrity of US citizenship and preventing the misuse of travel visas.

Officials emphasized that no foreign national is permitted to obtain a US visitor visa for the primary purpose of giving birth in the country to obtain citizenship for a child.

According to the department, a coordinated investigation uncovered an organized network in West Africa involving more than 100 foreign nationals allegedly using fraudulent documents and visa facilitators.

As part of the US birth tourism crackdown, visas linked to the operation were revoked while local authorities were engaged to identify additional suspects and dismantle similar networks.

Further investigations in Europe reportedly revealed over 400 suspected cases of birth tourism since 2024. These cases were linked to companies accused of coaching applicants, arranging travel logistics, and coordinating hospital delivery plans in the United States.

The crackdown has led to more visa cancellations and increased scrutiny of applicants. In North Africa, US officials also confirmed that over 100 visas were revoked after identifying individuals believed to be part of birth tourism arrangements.

Authorities said data analysis and intelligence cooperation played a key role in tracking and shutting down these operations.

The State Department reiterated that a US visa is a privilege, not a right, warning that individuals attempting to exploit the system will face revocation, bans, and further enforcement actions.

The ongoing US birth tourism crackdown signals a stronger global effort to tighten immigration controls and prevent visa fraud linked to citizenship abuse.
