Residents of Iluke Bunu in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State have been thrown into mourning following a deadly attack by suspected bandits on Government Secondary School, Iluke Bunu.
The attack occurred at about 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday when a large group of armed bandits reportedly stormed the area on approximately 40 motorcycles.
According to security reports, the attackers were suspected to be planning a mass abduction of students and residents before they were confronted by security operatives.
Confirming the incident, the Kogi State Police Command disclosed that a joint security team comprising police officers, tactical units, military personnel, and local vigilantes responded swiftly after receiving distress calls from the community.

The security operatives engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle, forcing the bandits to flee into nearby bushes.
Authorities stated that there is currently no confirmed evidence that any students or residents were successfully abducted during the attack.
However, the assault claimed the lives of three individuals. Those killed were identified as Mr. Ganiyu Anifowose, Vice Principal of UBE Secondary/Primary School, Iluke; Mr. Sunday Jacob Alhassan, aged 70; and six-year-old Sunday Ayele.
Police authorities also confirmed that one of the attackers was neutralized during the exchange of gunfire, while a member of the joint security team sustained gunshot injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.
The Commissioner of Police has ordered intensified security operations across the affected area, including bush-combing exercises and confidence-building patrols aimed at tracking down the fleeing suspects and preventing further attacks.
The Kogi State Police Command assured residents that security agencies remain committed to protecting lives and property.
Members of the public have also been urged to remain vigilant and provide credible information that could assist ongoing investigations.
