In a shocking development for African football lovers, home-based Ivory Coast fans denied US visas will completely miss out on traveling across the Atlantic.
The heartbreaking restriction was confirmed by the national supporters' committee on Thursday, exposing major flaws in the tournament's immigration policy. The run-up to the global sports tournament has been severely dogged by the strict immigration and visa policies of the primary host nation, the United States.
The political friction has extended beyond just the spectators; Somali referee Omar Artan was turned away at the border, and several crucial support staff members for the Iranian national squad have similarly been denied entry clearance.
Julien Kouadio Adonis, the president of the National Committee of Elephants Supporters (CNSE)—which operates directly under the Ivorian Ministry of Sport—expressed deep frustration regarding the situation.
The group is responsible for organizing logistics and travel packages for the country’s dedicated base of traveling fans.
The Ivorian supporters' group has been left with no choice but to call off their heavily planned trips entirely. The administration's diplomatic stance has been unwavering regarding visitors from specific regions, leaving hundreds of passionate football supporters stranded at home.

According to CNSE President Julien Kouadio Adonis: “The supporters have cancelled the trip because the US government does not want to see supporters from certain countries, including Ivory Coast, on its soil.
The United States has been clear with us, saying they do not want to see our supporters. This situation hurts us deeply because it prevents us from fulfilling our sacred duty, which is to support our team.”

Following the reality that local Ivory Coast fans denied US visas cannot make the journey, only a tiny handful of high-ranking CNSE officials have been authorized to travel.
These few cleared officials will now hold the heavy responsibility of coordinating and looking after the existing United States-based Ivorian diaspora.
While the CNSE originally estimated an aggregate crowd of over 1,000 local and international supporters at the stadium venues, the vibrant home-based core will undeniably be absent from the stands.
