The United States government has issued a warning to foreign social media influencers planning to attend the 2026 FIFA World Cup, cautioning that creating monetized content while on a tourist visa could lead to deportation.

The advisory is aimed at content creators traveling for the tournament across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The tournament, set to be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, is expected to attract millions of visitors, including vloggers, social media influencers, and digital content creators covering matches and fan experiences.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), visitors entering the country on a tourist visa are not permitted to engage in paid work or income-generating activities without proper authorization.

Authorities clarified that influencers who earn money through platforms such as YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook while in the U.S. for content creation may be considered to be working illegally under immigration law.

Officials emphasized that entering the country “with the sole purpose of creating content and generating income” violates visitor visa conditions and could lead to penalties, including deportation.

As excitement builds for the expanded 48-team World Cup, the warning has sparked widespread discussion among digital creators planning to travel for coverage of the tournament.

The U.S. government stated that the policy is intended to enforce immigration and employment regulations, though concerns remain about how strictly it will be applied during the global sporting event.
