The decision followed a written plea submitted by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU-ABSU) to the university management.
In a letter dated September 3, 2026, and signed by the Acting Registrar, Dr. Joy Nwankwo, the university confirmed that Professor Nwaeze’s suspension had been lifted following the union’s intervention.
However, ABSU stated that the decision does not bring the ongoing investigation against the professor to an end. The university said the lifting of the suspension was made without prejudice to the existing investigative panel.
Management also confirmed that the panel will continue its work and that the university is awaiting its final report before taking any further steps on the matter.
The development means Professor Nwaeze can return from suspension while the investigative process remains active.
The university’s position makes clear that lifting the suspension does not amount to a conclusion of the issues being examined by the panel.
