Isak opened the scoring after Cody Gakpo found him on the edge of the penalty area. The Swedish striker’s powerful effort was parried by Ipswich goalkeeper Kjell Scherpen, but the ball ended up in the net to give Liverpool an early lead.
The visitors doubled their advantage moments later when Gakpo released Isak with a well-weighted through ball. The striker raced into the area before calmly finishing at the near post, leaving Scherpen with little chance.
The result continues Isak’s impressive start to the new campaign. After a difficult first season at Liverpool affected by fitness problems, the forward has now scored three goals in three matches.
Isak came close to completing a hat-trick when he turned in a Florian Wirtz cross at the back post, but the effort was ruled out for offside.
Scherpen later made two important saves to deny Dominik Szoboszlai and prevent Liverpool from extending their advantage before the break.
Liverpool’s new £100 million signing Bradley Barcola made his Premier League debut shortly after the hour mark, replacing Isak as the visitors looked to manage the game.
The Reds were less threatening in attack during the second half but remained disciplined defensively to secure a clean sheet. The victory also maintained Iraola’s unbeaten start after two opening draws against Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest.
For Ipswich, the defeat was another difficult test since their return to the Premier League. After opening the campaign with a victory over Sunderland, the Tractor Boys have now suffered heavy defeats against Manchester United and Liverpool.
