Man Sparks Debate After Wife Chooses UK Move Instead of Caring for His Mother

A marriage and family roles debate has erupted on social media after a man shared how his wife chose to relocate to the United Kingdom instead of remaining in Nigeria to care for his mother, despite their original plan to move abroad together.

According to the man, he was living with his mother before getting married, and after their wedding, he and his wife planned to apply for UK visas and relocate together.

However, he said he later asked his wife to suspend her travel plans so he could move first while she remained in Nigeria to look after his mother.

He explained that his mother was uncomfortable living alone and specifically wanted his wife to stay with her.

“My mom said she couldn’t live alone and wanted my wife to remain with her. Since my wife was the only one available, I felt it was the best decision.”

According to him, his wife disagreed with the arrangement, leading to a disagreement between them before the issue was dropped.

He was later surprised when his wife informed him that she had secured her UK visa and intended to travel instead.

She reportedly suggested that he remain in Nigeria to care for his mother while she settled abroad.

“She said I should stay behind to take care of my mother, and that once she settles abroad, she’ll visit us often.”

The man questioned whether it was wrong for him, as a husband, to instruct his wife on what he believed was the best decision for their family.

“Is it a bad thing as a man to instruct my own wife on what to do?”
