INEC announced the extension in a press release issued on Saturday by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna.
According to the Commission, the previous deadline of Saturday, July 11, 2026, has now been extended to midnight on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.
The electoral body explained that the decision followed an appeal by the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) on behalf of political parties that were unable to complete the submission process within the original timeframe.
INEC stated that the extension reflects its commitment to conducting an inclusive electoral process while remaining within the provisions of the law.
“The decision to extend was based on appeal by the Inter-Party Advisory Council, on behalf of political parties who were unable to upload the names and personal particulars of their candidates within the scheduled timeline.”
The Commission noted that the additional time is intended to ensure that all eligible political parties have a fair opportunity to complete the submission of their candidates for the 2027 elections.
It also urged political parties to take advantage of the extension and ensure that all required information is uploaded before the new deadline expires.
“The extension underscores the Commission’s commitment to ensuring inclusivity in its practices, while acting within the ambit of the law.”
INEC further advised political parties not to wait until the final hours before completing the online submission process to avoid possible technical challenges.
The INEC deadline for submission of candidates now expires at midnight on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, after which no further submissions are expected to be accepted under the revised timetable for the 2027 Presidential and National Assembly elections.
