Seyi Makinde Assures Families of Abducted Oyo Students and Teachers

Governor Seyi Makinde has reassured residents of Oyo State that his administration is intensifying efforts to rescue abducted teachers and students kidnapped in Oriire Local Government Area. 

Speaking during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration at his Ikolaba residence in Ibadan on Wednesday, the governor urged affected families not to lose hope, emphasizing that security agencies were working round the clock to ensure the victims regain freedom safely. 

Makinde said the government understood the pain and fears of the affected families and promised that every possible measure was being taken to secure the release of the kidnapped schoolchildren and teachers. 

According to the governor, the tragic incident remains a top priority for his administration, adding that the state government would continue collaborating with security operatives to restore calm in the affected communities.

The kidnapping incident reportedly occurred during coordinated attacks on Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, Community Grammar School, and L.A. Primary School, Esiele, in Oriire Local Government Area. 

The attacks happened around 9:30 a.m. penultimate Friday and caused panic across the state. Governor Makinde also called for peace, unity, and tolerance among Nigerians as the country gradually approaches another political season. 

He stated that religion and ethnicity should never be used as tools to divide the people of Oyo State. He stressed that political offices are temporary, while the collective interest of the state and the nation remains more important. 

The governor urged citizens to continue supporting peaceful coexistence regardless of political differences. 

Earlier, the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Bayo Lawal, led Muslim faithful to the governor’s residence in celebration of Eid-el-Kabir. 

He praised Makinde’s administration for promoting religious harmony and inclusive governance across the state. 

Meanwhile, Muslim worshippers gathered in large numbers at the Agodi Eid praying ground in Ibadan to observe Eid-el-Kabir prayers. 

The prayer session was led by the Chief Imam of Ibadanland, AbdulGaniyy Agbotomokekere, who prayed for peace, improved security, and the safe return of the abducted victims. 

The congregation also urged security agencies and relevant authorities to intensify rescue operations and restore peace to communities affected by insecurity in Oyo State.
