Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has officially obtained the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential nomination form ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election.

The nomination form was collected on Friday at the ADC national secretariat in Abuja by a delegation led by former Edo State Governor, John Odigie-Oyegun, alongside other prominent politicians representing Amaechi.

The forms were presented to the delegation by the ADC Deputy National Organising Secretary, Atiku Mohammed.

With the latest development, Rotimi Amaechi has now become the second aspirant to formally enter the ADC presidential race after businessman Mohammed Hayatu-Deen earlier obtained the party’s expression of interest and nomination forms.

Amaechi’s move comes at a time when the ADC continues to battle internal leadership disputes and multiple court cases that have triggered uncertainty within the party.

The political crisis recently led to the exit of notable opposition figures, including former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, who both defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

Despite the defections and ongoing legal battles, ADC leaders have repeatedly assured members that the party remains committed to participating fully in the 2027 general elections.

ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, previously dismissed claims that the party’s internal challenges were responsible for the departure of Obi and Kwankwaso, insisting their exit was a pre-planned political decision.

Meanwhile, ADC National Chairman David Mark has continued to express confidence in the party’s structure and readiness for the next election cycle.

Rotimi Amaechi, a former Rivers State governor and influential political figure within Nigeria’s opposition politics, is expected to play a significant role in shaping the emerging political alignments ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.

Political observers believe his entry into the ADC presidential race could intensify competition within the opposition camp as parties reposition for the next general election.
