Real Madrid have fined midfielders Aurelien Tchouameni and Federico Valverde a combined €1 million following a heated dressing room confrontation between the two players.

The incident reportedly occurred ahead of this weekend’s highly anticipated El Clasico clash against Barcelona and has generated major reactions among Real Madrid supporters.

Federico Valverde, 27, was later taken to hospital with a head injury after the argument. However, the Uruguayan midfielder denied reports suggesting the pair physically fought each other.

According to Valverde, the injury happened after he accidentally hit a table during the disagreement. Medical reports later confirmed that he suffered a cranioencephalic trauma, a form of concussion, which is expected to keep him out of Sunday’s El Clasico encounter.

Real Madrid confirmed in an official statement that both Tchouameni and Valverde attended an internal disciplinary hearing on Friday, where they accepted fines of €500,000 each.

The club stated that both players expressed regret over the dressing room incident and apologised to teammates, coaching staff, club officials, and supporters.

Aurelien Tchouameni also addressed the controversy on social media, admitting that the incident was “unacceptable” while criticising false narratives circulating online.

“The internet loves to invent the wildest stories for the buzz,” the French midfielder wrote, insisting that not all reports surrounding the altercation were accurate.

Tchouameni acknowledged the punishment imposed by Real Madrid and said disagreements can happen in football dressing rooms, although he stressed that such behaviour does not reflect the standards expected at the Spanish giants.

The midfielder added that the squad remains united despite occasional disagreements and said the team’s focus has now shifted fully toward El Clasico and the remainder of the season.

The controversy comes during a difficult campaign for Real Madrid, with pressure mounting on players and coaching staff following disappointing performances in domestic and European competitions.

Despite the incident, club officials believe the matter has been resolved internally as the team prepares for one of the biggest matches of the season against Barcelona.
