According to details shared online, the woman had been battling severe financial hardship while trying to care for her eight-year-old son in Lagos.
Reports claimed she survived by selling food items online for as little as ₦2,000, while receiving little support from the father of her child.
The situation allegedly became worse when she agreed to a surrogacy arrangement through a family friend for ₦2 million.
Instead of undergoing IVF, the family reportedly convinced her to conceive naturally with the husband involved in the arrangement.

After delivering the baby at a private nurse’s home, she was allegedly paid only ₦700,000 instead of the agreed amount. She later returned to Lagos and attempted to rebuild her life by starting a small business, which reportedly failed.
Months later, she became pregnant for her own partner but struggled financially during the pregnancy. According to the account, she contacted the same family friend for financial assistance, only to allegedly face pressure again to give up her unborn child.
The woman reportedly refused repeated requests to sell the baby. However, after giving birth at a hospital and being unable to pay medical bills, she allegedly reached out to the family friend once more for help.
It was during this visit that the newborn was allegedly taken away while the mother was briefly absent from the hospital room. Shortly afterward, a payment alert of ₦1.1 million reportedly entered her account.
The case later gained attention after the woman repeatedly contacted activist VeryDarkMan for assistance. Following his intervention, a police petition was reportedly filed, leading to arrests connected to the incident.
Reports further claimed that the baby had already been sold to a lawyer for ₦4.5 million before authorities stepped in. The lawyer and the family friend were both reportedly arrested as investigations continued.
The child has now been reunited with the mother after about one month. The development has sparked widespread conversations online about poverty, child trafficking, illegal surrogacy arrangements, and the vulnerability of struggling mothers across Nigeria.
VeryDarkMan was also reported to have supported the woman’s first child by enrolling him in school and providing financial assistance to help the mother care for her newborn baby.
