In a detailed statement, the former Kano State governor said no final decision has been taken regarding his political future or that of his associates, stressing that reports suggesting a realignment within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) are premature and misleading.
Kwankwaso explained that the party is currently facing legal and structural uncertainties following recent court rulings. He noted that while the Supreme Court judgment affirmed the legitimacy of the David Mark-led National Working Committee, it also sent the matter back to the High Court, leaving the party in what he described as a “precarious position.”
The situation, he added, has been further complicated by a Federal High Court ruling that questioned the validity of the party’s recent convention, as well as a move by the Attorney General of the Federation seeking the deregistration of the ADC.
Reflecting on his earlier political journey, Kwankwaso recalled that he exited the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) due to legal challenges that made continued membership difficult.
He suggested that the ADC is now experiencing similar pressures, prompting him and other stakeholders to begin consultations with leaders across different political platforms.
According to him, discussions are ongoing with figures from parties such as the NDC and PRP, as part of efforts to determine the best path forward in protecting democratic interests.
He assured supporters that a formal decision would be communicated once consultations are concluded. Addressing rumours about a possible presidential bid, Kwankwaso firmly stated that he has neither declared any intention to run nor endorsed any candidate. He emphasized that the ADC has not yet zoned its presidential ticket or taken any official position on the matter.
He also highlighted his history of party loyalty, referencing his participation in the 2014 APC presidential primary, where he finished second to Muhammadu Buhari, and his role in supporting Atiku Abubakar after the 2019 PDP primaries.
According to him, his political decisions have consistently been guided by unity and national interest rather than personal ambition.
Kwankwaso further clarified that his absence from recent ADC stakeholders’ meetings was due to personal commitments, noting that he had formally informed party leadership in advance.
