Veteran Nollywood actor Emeka Ike has announced his return to active politics ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
The actor revealed that he would contest for the Abuja Municipal/Bwari Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives under the platform of the Nigerian Democratic Congress.
Speaking on his political ambition, Ike explained that his decision was motivated by a desire to contribute to nation-building and help bring governance closer to ordinary Nigerians.
According to him: “I am running for the Federal House of Representatives under the Bwari federal constituency in Abuja. We want to make a statement.”
The Nollywood star added that after years of entertaining Nigerians through movies, he now wants to focus on public service and leadership. “I want to step into the real thing right now.
If I have made Nigerians happy through entertainment, let us see how we can bring governance closer to the people,” he stated.
Emeka Ike also criticised what he described as entrenched political interests controlling power in the country.
He called for greater participation by citizens in governance and stressed the need for accountability among political leaders.
The actor said: “Let us block the boys who think they have the power. If we stand, they will run.”
A video currently circulating online reportedly showed the actor receiving his nomination form from party officials, officially launching his campaign ahead of the 2027 elections.
A member of his campaign team also confirmed that Ike had emerged victorious in the party primary and was preparing for the general election contest.
This is not the first time Emeka Ike has ventured into politics. In 2018, he contested for a House of Representatives seat under the Young Progressive Party in Imo State’s Ideato South constituency.
Beyond politics, Emeka Ike remains one of Nollywood’s most recognised actors, famous for starring in movies such as Deadly Affair.
Throughout his acting career, he has featured alongside top Nollywood stars including Genevieve Nnaji, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Rita Dominic, and Ramsey Nouah.
His latest political move adds to the growing number of Nigerian entertainers seeking elective political offices ahead of the 2027 elections.
