Aisha Yesufu joins NDC FCT Senate bid 2027 as Nigeria’s opposition landscape continues to witness major realignments ahead of the next general elections.

Prominent activist Aisha Yesufu has officially resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

In a statement shared on her X handle, Yesufu confirmed that she will also contest for the Federal Capital Territory senatorial seat in the 2027 elections under the NDC platform.

She explained that her decision was driven by what she described as a deeper understanding of Nigeria’s political future and her continued support for Peter Obi.

According to Yesufu, her earlier move to the ADC was influenced by her commitment to Obi’s political vision, and her latest decision reflects a continuation of that support following Obi’s transition to the NDC.

She emphasized that her actions are guided by consistency and a desire to remain aligned with what she believes represents hope for Nigeria.

The activist also stated that she had completed her responsibilities within the ADC before making her exit, describing the transition as smooth and respectful.

She expressed gratitude to party members and colleagues, noting that her experience within the party was both meaningful and impactful.

Her declaration to run for the FCT Senate seat marks a significant shift from activism into elective politics, positioning her as a key figure in the evolving opposition movement.

Political observers note that her entry into the race could energize younger voters and civil society groups ahead of 2027.

Yesufu’s defection comes shortly after the high-profile moves by Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Peter Obi, both of whom recently joined the NDC.
