Peter Obi, Kwankwaso join NDC 2027 presidential race as Nigeria’s political landscape witnesses a fresh realignment ahead of the next general elections.

Former presidential candidates Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso have formally joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), marking a significant shift in their political trajectories. The development follows Obi’s earlier resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where he cited internal crises and a challenging political environment.

Kwankwaso, who previously exited the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), also aligned with the move as part of broader consultations on the future of opposition politics in Nigeria.

Both leaders were received at the NDC headquarters in Abuja by the party’s National Leader, Henry Seriake Dickson, a former governor of Bayelsa State, and National Chairman Moses Cleopas. Party officials described the development as a sign of growing national acceptance and momentum for the NDC.

The entry of Obi and Kwankwaso into the NDC is widely seen as a strategic move aimed at consolidating political influence ahead of the 2027 presidential race.

Both figures command significant support bases across different regions of the country, making their alliance a potentially powerful force in upcoming elections.

Political analysts suggest that this new alignment could reshape opposition dynamics, particularly as parties and stakeholders continue to reposition in response to ongoing internal disputes and legal challenges within existing platforms.

While neither Obi nor Kwankwaso has officially declared a presidential bid under the NDC, their move is already fueling speculation about a possible joint or competitive ticket in 2027.

For now, the focus remains on building party structures and strengthening alliances that could challenge the ruling establishment.
