Presidency reacts to Peter Obi ADC exit political nomad as the Nigerian government responds strongly to the former presidential candidate’s decision to leave the African Democratic Congress (ADC), escalating political tensions ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a statement posted on X, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Information and Strategy, described Obi’s exit as further proof of what he called “opportunistic politics.”

He dismissed the reasons provided by Peter Obi as “puerile” and “illogical,” arguing that the former Anambra State governor frequently shifts political platforms.

Onanuga did not hold back in his criticism, referring to Obi as a “political nomad” and accusing him of avoiding competitive political contests.

He claimed that Obi was unwilling to challenge established figures within the ADC and instead preferred what he described as an “easy path,” which he suggested could lead to another electoral loss in 2027.

The presidential aide also alleged that Obi often blames the government for political setbacks without engaging in self-reflection.

Despite the criticism, he welcomed Obi’s continued participation in the political space, framing it as part of the broader democratic process.

Obi had earlier announced his departure from the ADC, citing internal divisions, persistent legal battles, and what he described as a toxic political environment.

He maintained that his decision was not driven by personal ambition but by a desire to focus on national development and avoid distractions caused by party crises.
