Azubuike was elected during the party’s State Congress held in Umuahia, where delegates adopted a consensus arrangement to fill key positions within the State Working Committee.
The process also produced Mr Chucks Akamadu as state secretary, Ben Otti as organising secretary, and Mr Emenike Iroegbu as publicity secretary. Speaking after the congress, Governor Otti commended the peaceful conduct of the exercise, describing it as a reflection of unity and internal stability within the party.
He noted that the successful transition signals the beginning of a new phase for the Labour Party in the state. The governor congratulated the newly elected officials and assured them of his administration’s backing, emphasizing the importance of cohesion as the party prepares for future political contests.
He added that collective effort and discipline would be crucial in strengthening the party’s position ahead of the 2027 elections. Otti also acknowledged the contributions of the immediate past Acting State Chairman, Emmanuel Otti, praising his leadership during a challenging period leading up to the congress and encouraging him to remain committed to the party’s growth.
In his acceptance speech, Azubuike expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in him by party members. He pledged to unite stakeholders and expand the party’s grassroots structure across Abia State, while leveraging the governor’s popularity to secure electoral victories in the coming election cycle.
The development marks a significant step for the Labour Party in Abia as it seeks to consolidate its influence and maintain political momentum in the state.
