KWANKWASO RESIGNS NNPP
Former Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has officially announced his resignation from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), marking a major shift in Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.
The development has sparked conversations across the country, with many linking the move to broader political realignments.
In a statement released on Sunday, Kwankwaso confirmed that his resignation from the NNPP takes immediate effect.
“I wish to formally announce my resignation… with immediate effect,” he said.
Kwankwaso, who served as the party’s national leader and presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, described the decision as a difficult one.
Explaining his move, Kwankwaso pointed to the evolving political climate in Nigeria as a key factor.
“Considering the current trajectory of the nation’s political landscape… I have found it necessary to identify with another platform,” he stated.
The Kwankwaso resigns NNPP development is widely seen as part of strategic repositioning ahead of 2027.
Kwankwaso expressed gratitude to key figures within the party, including the national chairman, Ajuji Ahmed, and members of the National Working Committee.
He also thanked party leaders at all levels and supporters of the Kwankwasiyya movement for their loyalty and commitment.
Reports indicate that Kwankwaso is set to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), further reshaping the political equation.
He is said to have held meetings with ADC leaders, including Rauf Aregbesola, as part of the transition process.
The Kwankwaso resigns NNPP move signals growing momentum in political realignments as key players position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Kwankwaso reaffirmed his commitment to working with stakeholders to build a better Nigeria.
“We shall continue to collaborate… towards a more prosperous future for our nation,” he said.
