The Supreme Court has scheduled December 15 for the judgment in the appeals filed by the Federal Government and Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). The decision came after final submissions from the government's lawyer, Tijani Gazali (SAN), and Kanu's counsel, Mike Ozekhome (SAN).

The Federal Government is seeking to overturn the Court of Appeal's earlier judgment, which dismissed the treasonable felony charge against Kanu and ordered his release, claiming he was unlawfully returned to the country after jumping bail. Kanu, on the other hand, is requesting the court to uphold the Court of Appeal's judgment and set aside the subsequent order staying the execution of the judgment.

The Court of Appeal in Abuja had previously ordered Kanu's release from detention and quashed a 15-count terrorism charge filed against him by the FG. The appellate court found that the government had violated numerous laws by forcibly returning Kanu from Kenya for trial, stripping the trial court of jurisdiction.

Dissatisfied with this decision, the FG appealed to the Supreme Court and secured a suspension of the judgment's execution.
