According to the 2023 Global Liveability Report by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), Lagos, the economic capital of Nigeria, has been ranked as the fourth least liveable city worldwide.
The top two most liveable cities globally are Vienna, the capital of Austria, and Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark. Melbourne and Sydney in Australia, along with Vancouver in Canada, secured the third, fourth, and fifth positions, respectively.
Lagos has shown a slight improvement, moving up two places from its previous position as the second-worst liveable city in 2022.
The progress is attributed to advancements in healthcare and education. However, corruption remains an ongoing challenge in the city.
The EIU notes that despite being at the bottom of the rankings, cities like Lagos have witnessed some improvements in healthcare and education, partly due to increased funding and the decline in COVID-19 cases.
