Presidential candidate Peter Obi was on Tuesday caught in a tense political standoff when Peter Obi blocked in Benue state capital Makurdi after protesters barricaded Gboko Road. 

The demonstrators, chanting slogans against the politician, blocked the strategic highway near the Nigerian Air Force Base and Makurdi Airport for several hours. 

The heavy blockade caused major traffic congestion, forcing Obi's convoy to a complete standstill as he attempted to travel through the area. 

Speaking directly from the scene in a video broadcast by News Central Television, Obi clarified that he had made the long journey to extend heartfelt condolences to local communities affected by persistent violent killings across Benue State, only to be turned back by organized youths.

Reflecting on the roadblock, the presidential candidate accused a government official of orchestrating the disruptive demonstration. 

Obi stated that he was informed the protest was organized under the direction of a Special Assistant to the state government who allegedly mobilized vulnerable young people for political leverage. 

Expressing deep frustration over the incident, he condemned the maneuver as an unacceptable display of political rascality. 

He cautioned that weaponizing hungry, unemployed youths to settle political scores creates dangerous precedents that will ultimately backfire on society and those in authority, questioning why state leadership permitted such disruptions while citizens continue to face serious security challenges daily.

Despite the situation surrounding Peter Obi blocked in Benue, the political figure insisted that leaders must focus on protecting lives rather than inciting public unrest. 

He warned that using vulnerable citizens to stage artificial blockades undermines democratic freedoms and distracts from the pressing security crisis facing rural farming communities. 

As footage of the Makurdi standoff continues to circulate online, the event has sparked heated reactions across political lines, renewing debates over freedom of movement for public figures and the ethical conduct of political aides during humanitarian visits.
