How to verify your academic certificates online through FG’s portal

The Federal Ministry of Education has transformed administrative processes across the country by making the ESSVerify portal certificate verification system fully operational, allowing citizens to authenticate Nigerian academic qualifications and evaluate foreign credentials entirely online. 

Designed under the Education Sector Support and Services framework, the platform completely eliminates the necessity for physical visits to ministry headquarters in Abuja. 

Minister of Education Tunji Alausa recently reconfirmed that end-to-end digitization—which includes verifying existing documents, securing eligibility or English proficiency letters, and requesting letters of no objection—was finalized to ensure seamless, accessible service delivery for students, job seekers, and migrating professionals worldwide.

Navigating the platform begins with identifying the specific service required for your academic documents. 

Individuals seeking to use Nigerian degrees abroad for employment, further studies, or immigration can apply directly for official authentication, while those holding foreign qualifications obtained outside Nigeria can request an evaluation for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) mobilization or local employment clearance. 

For employers, academic institutions, or government organizations wanting to confirm whether an issued document is genuine, the portal offers a quick verification feature where entering the document number immediately checks the credential's validity within the ministry's database.

When submitting an application for ESSVerify portal certificate verification services, users must create a profile on the official website https://essverify.education.gov.ng/ select their required service, and enter personal and institutional details. 

After selecting the documents to process and indicating page counts, applicants generate a Remita Retrieval Reference (RRR) code to complete non-refundable processing payments online. Clear, scanned copies of credentials must then be uploaded to the user dashboard. 

In cases where official academic transcripts are mandatory, applicants are required to contact the registry of their awarding institution to ensure transcripts are transmitted electronically directly from the school to the designated ministry email.
