The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially debunked a viral document circulating on social media, dismissing it as a WAEC fake letter 50 schools scam that falsely claimed candidate results across 50 secondary schools in the 2026 WASSCE were withheld over examination malpractice.
The examination body issued the disclaimer via its official X handle, sharing a stamped copy of the forged letter stamped with a prominent "FAKE" marker and cautioning school administrators, parents, and candidates to disregard the document entirely.
The forged letter, dated August 2, 2026, purported to be an official directive signed by the Head of the WAEC Nigeria National Office, Dr. Amos Dangut.
Complete with fraudulent council letterheads and official seals, the fake notice listed public and private schools across several states—including Lagos and Abuja—and instructed affected institutions to submit detailed defense reports within 14 days or face administrative sanctions.

Out of 1,950,726 candidates who sat for the examination, the council officially withheld the results of 167,486 candidates (representing 8.59 percent) due to verified infractions such as mobile phone usage in examination halls and organized cheating.
WAEC added that several complicit supervisors and invigilators have been arrested and handed over to security agencies for prosecution.
