The Nigerian Army has taken into custody two soldiers for allegedly performing unauthorized private security guard duties during the high-profile wedding of social media influencers Habeeb Hamzat (Peller) and Amadou Elizabeth Aminata (Jarvis) in Lekki, Lagos.
The military personnel, identified as Privates Onasanya Ifeoluwa and Ukpai Onyinyechi, are attached to the Nigerian Army Medical Services and Hospital in Obalende, Lagos. Their arrest on Tuesday was formally confirmed by Lt.-Col. Musa Yahaya, spokesperson for the 81 Division of the Nigerian Army.
The crackdown followed widely circulated social media footage from the weekend event showing uniformed soldiers guarding guest entrances and escorting high-profile attendees, including TikTok creator Ivanna, through crowded venue areas. The viral clips sparked public criticism, with observers questioning why serving military personnel were deployed to provide escort services for a private celebrity function.
The unauthorized deployment directly conflicts with standing Federal Government directives ordering the withdrawal of military and police escorts from individuals not legally entitled to VIP security details. Military authorities reiterated that serving personnel are strictly prohibited from taking on private guard assignments without executive clearance and official deployment orders.
According to military sources, preliminary investigations remain active to determine the full circumstances surrounding the breach, ascertain whether financial inducements were involved, and identify any additional personnel implicated.
The arrest comes as public attention remains fixed on the Army detains soldiers Peller Jarvis wedding controversy, which dominated social media discussions following the star-studded ceremony.
