FSG has agreed to sell a minority stake in Liverpool FC to 1892 Holdings, a consortium led and managed by businessman Amit Bhatia, in a strategic investment aimed at supporting the club’s long-term growth.

Fenway Sports Group (FSG), which remains the majority owner of Liverpool Football Club, announced that the consortium includes investments from Amit Bhatia and the Mittal Family Trusts, K5 Sports, with Jeff Bezos as the lead investor in the K5 Global Fund, and EE Capital, the family office of Elaine and Eduardo Saverin.

The agreement will bring together investors with experience across global business, technology, sports and investment as the club continues to pursue its long-term ambitions.

Despite the transaction, FSG will retain majority ownership and operational control of Liverpool FC.

Mike Gordon, FSG President, said the investment reflected the ownership group’s long-term approach to running the club and its commitment to making decisions based on Liverpool’s future rather than short-term considerations.

Gordon said FSG had been impressed by the consortium’s shared philosophy and appreciation of the club’s identity, adding that the new investors’ experience could complement the foundations already established at Liverpool.

Amit Bhatia, speaking on behalf of 1892 Holdings, said the consortium was proud to invest in Liverpool and expressed respect for FSG’s ownership and achievements at Anfield.

He added that the investment was made because the group believed strongly in Liverpool and its leadership and wanted to support the club’s continued success.

The consortium’s involvement is expected to provide Liverpool with additional perspectives and expertise as the club evaluates opportunities to strengthen its operations and ambitions both on and off the pitch.

Corestone Capital Advisors introduced the parties and facilitated discussions surrounding the transaction. Several international law firms and financial advisers were involved in supporting the deal.

The completion of the Liverpool FC minority stake transaction remains subject to regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions.

The agreement does not amount to a change of control at Liverpool, with FSG continuing to hold the majority ownership position and operational authority over the Premier League club.
