Tekno Says Marriages No Longer Work, Laments Decline of Genuine Love

Tekno on marriages and relationships has sparked widespread reactions after the Nigerian singer claimed that marriages no longer work and that genuine love has declined since the COVID-19 pandemic changed how people relate to one another.

The award-winning singer shared his views during an interview with Cool FM, where he reflected on how relationships have evolved in recent years.

According to Tekno on marriages and relationships, the COVID-19 lockdown gave many couples the opportunity to spend extended periods together, leading some people to realise they were no longer happy in their relationships.

“People got to spend time with their partners that period so maybe they got to realize they don’t really like them. I feel like since then, people have leaned into this not wanting to love as much,” he said.

The singer argued that today’s relationships are different from what they used to be, claiming that love no longer occupies the central place it once held in society.

He also made a controversial remark, alleging that even the wives of respected public figures are now involved with younger men.

“Marriages don’t work. You even have some of our legends’ wives getting chopped by some of the new boys.”

Tekno further lamented what he described as the disappearance of genuine romance, noting that love used to inspire films and everyday life.

“There was a time where love was a thing, for real. Even our movies revolved around love. Now our movies are just clout and influencing. It doesn’t feel organic.”

The singer also stressed the importance of giving partners enough personal space in relationships, suggesting that absence can strengthen appreciation between couples.

“If you can’t appreciate the absence, the presence doesn’t really make sense.”
