The NYSC service year extension in Osun has affected 11 corps members after the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) extended their mandatory national service by one year for various infractions committed during the 2025 Batch 'B' Stream service year.
The announcement was made on Thursday by the Osun State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mr. Ekeng Kubiangha, while monitoring the low-key passing-out ceremony held simultaneously across the state's 30 Local Government Areas and the Area Office.
Kubiangha, accompanied by members of the state management team and the National Directorate Headquarters (NDHQ) Monitoring Officer, Mr. Peter Okpanachi, inspected the exercise in Obokun, Ilesa East and Ilesa West Local Government Areas.
According to the state coordinator, the NYSC service year extension in Osun was carried out in line with the provisions of the NYSC Bye-Laws.
He also disclosed that 18 corps members absconded from national service, while 1,702 successfully completed the mandatory one-year programme and received their Certificates of National Service.
"We have 18 corps members that absconded from service, while 1,702 successfully completed the mandatory one-year national service and received their Certificates of National Service," Kubiangha said.
The coordinator urged the outgoing corps members to remain thankful to God and approach the next phase of their lives with determination, integrity and commitment.
"The Certificate of National Service is only a foundation upon which you must build successful and impactful careers through hard work, innovation, resilience and discipline," he said.
He further encouraged the discharged corps members to continue serving as worthy ambassadors of the NYSC by upholding the values of patriotism, honesty, selfless service and good character wherever they find themselves.
Kubiangha also advised them to remain law-abiding citizens and continue contributing positively to national development and community service.
During the passing-out ceremony, outstanding Corps Liaison Officers received Certificates of Commendation in recognition of their exemplary leadership and meritorious service throughout the service year.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the state coordinator expressed confidence that the discharged corps members would excel in their chosen careers and make meaningful contributions to society.
