Ray Emodi has explained why he quit acting, revealing that severe burnout after years of nonstop work forced him to step away from Nollywood before eventually deciding to return.
In a video shared with his fans, the actor admitted that announcing his retirement from acting and focusing solely on music was not the best way to communicate his situation.
He apologised to supporters and said he felt it was important to explain the real reason behind his decision.
According to Emodi, he had been actively working in the film industry from 2017 until the end of last year, appearing in nearly 300 productions, including feature films, television series and short films, with little or no time to rest.
He said the demanding schedule eventually took a toll on his physical and mental well-being, leaving him emotionally exhausted and disconnected from the profession he loves.
The actor noted that acting is more than just a career for him, as he studied the craft academically and also earned a Master’s degree in Acting for Film. Despite his passion, he admitted that pushing himself without adequate breaks led to complete burnout.
Reflecting on his earlier announcement, Emodi said telling fans he was no longer acting and would focus only on music was not an accurate reflection of what he was truly experiencing.
He acknowledged that many fans were confused by the sudden decision, adding that he understood why some people questioned his move.
Offering an apology, the actor said he never intended to mislead his supporters and admitted that he should have explained his situation more clearly instead of making an abrupt career announcement.
Now returning to Nollywood, Emodi said he has no intention of repeating the same mistake.
He explained that he would now be more selective with the projects he accepts, choosing only roles that keep him creatively fulfilled while allowing him enough time to rest and maintain a healthy work-life balance.
According to the actor, his biggest ambition has never been to make money alone but to create meaningful work that positively impacts audiences.
