Anambra woman Loveth Sunday has shared how she lost her left leg in a tragic bus accident, revealing that her fiancé ended their engagement while she was still recovering in the hospital.
The heartbreaking story of the Anambra woman loses leg in bus accident has drawn widespread attention after Sunday recounted the challenges she has faced since the life-changing incident that occurred on April 12, 2019, in Oraifite, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State.
According to Sunday, she was standing beside the road on her way to Onitsha to purchase items for one of her siblings when a commercial bus reportedly suffered brake failure, veered off the road and rammed into three people.
Two victims reportedly died at the scene, while she survived with severe injuries.
She said concerned residents rushed her to several hospitals, but five medical facilities allegedly declined to admit her before she finally received treatment at a sixth hospital.
Sunday disclosed that she remained unconscious for five days before regaining consciousness.
Doctors later informed her that both legs had been badly affected and warned that amputation might be necessary to save her life. While one leg was eventually saved, her left leg had become severely infected and had to be amputated to stop the infection from spreading.
Although her parents were initially reluctant to approve the operation because of the emotional impact, they eventually consented after doctors explained that delaying the procedure could become life-threatening.
She was later transferred to Uzondu Orthopaedic Hospital in Ojoto, where the amputation was successfully carried out.
According to Sunday, her family spent more than ₦2.5 million on medical treatment after making an initial hospital deposit of ₦350,000.
The emotional pain did not end there.
She revealed that only three weeks before the accident, she and her fiancé had held their traditional introduction ceremony on March 23, 2019.
Although he initially visited her after the accident, she said he later stopped communicating and eventually informed her that he no longer wished to continue with the marriage.
Reflecting on the experience, Sunday said she found strength through her faith despite the disappointment.
She also expressed sadness that some close friends, including her best friend, reportedly never visited or checked on her during her recovery.
Sunday said her parents and seven siblings have continued to support her emotionally despite facing financial difficulties.
She also disclosed that the driver responsible for the accident never visited her in the hospital. According to her, the driver’s relatives only contributed ₦50,000, explaining that they had already spent money burying the two victims who lost their lives in the crash.
Now living with a disability, Sunday relies on crutches after experiencing problems with a previous prosthetic leg.
She said she urgently needs a replacement prosthesis, explaining that a basic artificial leg costs about ₦850,000, while a higher-quality silicone version suitable for greater mobility costs approximately ₦2.5 million.
She is also seeking financial assistance to rebuild her hairstyling and perfume business, which she hopes will help cover her medical expenses and daily living costs.
Before the accident, Sunday had secured admission into Anambra State University, now Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, but was unable to continue her education because of financial challenges, leading her to learn hairstyling instead.
She further revealed that before the accident, she experienced disturbing dreams in which she saw herself involved in a similar crash and even imagined obituary posters bearing her photograph, although she chose not to tell anyone at the time.
Despite everything she has endured, Sunday says she remains grateful to God for preserving her life.
She has also been seen sharing videos of herself dancing and encouraging others, saying she has chosen to remain hopeful even though she has put romantic relationships on hold for now.
