The rumour mill surrounding Apple’s upcoming iPhone 18 Pro Max is gaining momentum as new supply chain leaks and dummy model reports reveal what could be one of the company’s biggest smartphone upgrades in years.
According to recent reports, Apple is focusing less on radical design changes and more on major internal improvements that could significantly boost performance, battery life, camera quality, and artificial intelligence capabilities.
One of the biggest upgrades expected on the iPhone 18 Pro Max is the introduction of Apple’s new A20 Pro chip, which is reportedly being built using TSMC’s advanced 2nm process technology.
The move from 3nm to 2nm architecture is expected to deliver faster processing speeds, better power efficiency, and improved AI performance for Apple Intelligence features.
Reports claim the new processor could offer up to 15 percent better CPU performance while reducing power consumption by nearly 30 percent compared to previous models.
The iPhone 18 Pro Max is also expected to include a new Wafer-Level Multi-Chip Module packaging system that places 12GB RAM closer to the processor for faster AI tasks such as live translation, real-time image editing, and contextual assistance.
Another major highlight is the rumored mechanical variable aperture camera system. Unlike current smartphone cameras that rely heavily on software effects, the new camera may physically adjust light intake between f/1.4 and f/2.8.
This upgrade could allow users to capture more natural background blur effects and better low-light photography similar to professional DSLR cameras.
Leaks also suggest Apple is shrinking the Dynamic Island by moving part of the Face ID system underneath the display.
The redesign is expected to provide more usable screen space on the large 6.9-inch display. The iPhone 18 Pro Max may also become slightly thicker and heavier due to a much larger battery reportedly ranging between 5,100mAh and 5,200mAh.
Combined with the improved efficiency of the 2nm A20 Pro chip, Apple is reportedly targeting true two-day battery life for users.
In addition, Apple is expected to debut its second-generation custom C2 5G modem, promising stronger connectivity, better signal stability, and lower battery drain.
Reports further reveal that Apple could introduce a new flagship colour option described as a deep wine-like Dark Cherry finish.
The iPhone 18 Pro Max is expected to launch alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and a rumoured foldable device possibly called the iPhone Ultra during Apple’s traditional September event.
Industry analysts believe Apple may maintain a starting price of around $1,199 for the base iPhone 18 Pro Max despite rising production costs, as the company aims to remain competitive in the premium smartphone market.
