Banky W Says He Handles Cooking at Home, Not Wife Adesua Etomi-Wellington

Nigerian singer Banky W has opened up about his marriage, revealing that he takes on most of the cooking responsibilities at home instead of his wife, Adesua Etomi-Wellington. 

Speaking during an appearance on The Teju Babyface Show, the music star addressed reactions to a viral video showing him preparing a meal, which sparked widespread conversations about gender roles in relationships. 

 

According to Banky W, the arrangement in their household is based on personal preference rather than societal expectations. He explained that while his wife is capable of cooking, it is simply not something she enjoys doing. 

“My wife does not really cook, which she can cook very well, but it’s not her thing,” he said, adding that he personally enjoys cooking and finds fulfillment in it.  

The singer noted that their dynamic may seem unusual to some people, especially in a society where traditional roles are often expected in marriage. However, he emphasised that what matters most is what works for each couple. 

“There are some people that will come and see me cooking and they’ll be like, ‘what’s going on?’ It makes some people uncomfortable, but it works for us,” he said. 

Banky W also used the opportunity to advise couples to avoid measuring their relationships against societal standards, stressing the importance of understanding and mutual agreement. 

He concluded by encouraging partners to focus on building relationships that suit their unique circumstances, rather than trying to meet external expectations.
