ABIA PROTEST ALEX OTTI
The Abia State Government has raised concerns over an alleged plan by opposition elements to stage a protest targeting Governor Alex Otti.
In a statement issued by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, the government said intelligence reports point to efforts to destabilize the state.
According to the statement, certain political actors are allegedly mobilizing individuals from Aba and neighboring states to stage a protest.
The planned protest is reportedly tagged:
“Tinubu Dey Work, Otti Dey Chop.”
The government claims the aim is to push what it described as a false narrative that federal funds are being used for projects executed by the state.
Authorities warned that the protest could escalate into violence, especially if it leads to confrontation with security agencies.
Key concerns highlighted include:
Possible clashes with state task force officials in Aba,, Risk of breakdown of law and order, Potential loss of lives and property
The government further alleged that the move may be part of broader political strategies ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Despite the concerns, the Abia government reaffirmed its commitment to democratic values, including freedom of expression and political participation.
However, it cautioned that:
Any attempt to incite violence will not be tolerated, Individuals or groups threatening public safety will face action.
The government urged parents and guardians to caution their children against participating in politically motivated protests that could endanger their safety.
Residents were also assured of continued efforts to maintain peace and stability across the state.
The Abia protest Alex Otti situation reflects rising political tension as Nigeria gradually moves toward the next election cycle.
While protests remain a constitutional right, authorities are emphasizing the need to prevent actions that could lead to unrest.
