WIKE CRITICISES PETER OBI

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has taken a swipe at Peter Obi, comparing him to members who defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The remarks have stirred political reactions as alignments ahead of the 2027 elections continue to evolve.

Speaking during his faction’s PDP National Convention, Wike argued that Obi failed to demonstrate leadership during internal challenges within the Labour Party.

“The Labour Party gave him the platform… but when crisis came, he ran away,” Wike said.

The Wike criticises Peter Obi comment centers on claims that Obi did not stay to resolve party issues.

Wike likened defectors from the PDP to Obi, stating that both groups failed to show leadership during difficult moments.

“Those who defected… lack leadership traits,” he added.

The statement forms part of ongoing internal tensions within the PDP.

Wike’s faction proceeded with its convention despite ongoing legal disputes linked to a rival faction reportedly backed by Bala Mohammed and Seyi Makinde.

The dispute includes a case connected to a ruling involving Kabiru Turaki at the appellate level.

In a surprising stance, Wike reiterated that the PDP may not field a presidential candidate in the 2027 elections.

He instead expressed support for a second term for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Wike criticises Peter Obi remarks highlight increasing political tension and shifting alliances as Nigeria moves closer to the 2027 general elections.
