Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has declared that no individual, including President Bola Tinubu, owns the All Progressives Congress (APC), stressing that the ruling party belongs collectively to all its members.
Kalu made the statement on Wednesday in Umuahia while addressing APC stakeholders during the party’s ward congress in Abia State. He urged party members to embrace unity, cohesion, and collective responsibility as the APC prepares for the 2027 general elections.
According to the Deputy Speaker, the party’s leadership in Abia is committed to eliminating internal divisions and building a united front anchored on discipline, inclusion, and shared purpose.

He described the exercise as a “congress of harmonisation,” where stakeholders are actively involved in deciding leadership at ward, local government, and state levels.
“It is a congress of harmonisation where everybody is given a sense of belonging, relevance, and importance. No one man owns this party — not Benjamin Kalu, not anybody,” he said.
Kalu added that President Tinubu himself emphasised inclusiveness, noting that the President prefers to refer to the APC as “our party” rather than “my party.”
In his remarks, Chairman of the Congress Committee, Emmanuel Goar, assured stakeholders of a peaceful and transparent process, urging full cooperation with the committee.
Goar, a former Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly and ex-member of the House of Representatives, said the national committee would work closely with the state leadership to ensure a successful congress.
NAN further reported that congress forms were distributed across the 184 wards in Abia State, with the Local Government congress scheduled to hold on Thursday, February 26.
