Edo Government Labels Peter Obi a ‘Destabilising Force,’ Alleges Political Crises Follow His Activities

The Edo State Government has described former presidential candidate Peter Obi as a destabilising figure in the state’s political landscape, alleging that political crises often trail his engagements wherever he operates.

The allegation was made by Edo State Commissioner for Information, Kassim Afegbua, during a Wednesday appearance on Politics Today obtained by Daily Post.

Afegbua made the remarks while responding to discussions surrounding reports of an alleged assassination attempt on Obi’s life. According to him, Obi’s political history reflects a recurring pattern of internal party disputes and instability.



He alleged that Obi’s previous visits to Edo State were followed by political unrest, warning that the state should not be drawn into what he described as unresolved internal party conflicts.




Afegbua further claimed that the internal crisis within the Labour Party during Obi’s membership was never resolved before his reported alignment with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).



According to the commissioner, Obi exited the Labour Party amid factional disputes without demonstrating the leadership capacity to resolve them, questioning his conflict-management credentials.




As of press time, Peter Obi has not publicly responded to the claims made by the Edo State Government.







He cautioned that Edo State should not be blamed for any fallout arising from political activities linked to Obi or his associates.

“Don’t forget that Peter Obi came the first time to Edo and there was crisis. He came a second time, there was crisis,” Afegbua said.



He added that parties associated with Obi often experience internal divisions, alleging that such crises are being transferred from one political platform to another.
