Billionaire businessman and Chairman of BUA Group, Abdulsamad Rabiu, has announced that he will fulfil his $500,000 pledge to Nigeria’s Super Eagles despite the team falling short of winning the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Rabiu made this known on Thursday through a post on his official Instagram page, where he commended the national team for their commitment, resilience and fighting spirit throughout the tournament.
“You Gave Your All” — Rabiu Tells Super Eagles
Praising the players for their effort on the pitch, the BUA Chairman acknowledged that while the ultimate goal was not achieved, the team’s performance inspired pride among Nigerians.
According to him, the Super Eagles displayed courage and determination in every game, proving their strength and unity even in difficult moments.
Effort and Unity Matter More Than Results
Reflecting on the campaign, Rabiu stressed that football outcomes do not always reflect the amount of effort invested, noting that the passion, teamwork and unity shown by the players were what truly mattered.
He described the team’s commitment as worthy of recognition, adding that giving everything on the field is an achievement in itself.
$500,000 Reward Still Guaranteed
As a gesture of appreciation, Rabiu confirmed that he would still honour the $500,000 reward earlier promised to the Super Eagles, describing it as recognition of their hard work, dedication and the excitement they brought to millions of Nigerians during the tournament.
The pledge was initially made before the competition began as part of efforts to motivate the team in their pursuit of continental success.
Nigeria’s AFCON 2025 Journey
Nigeria’s Super Eagles impressed fans with a strong run to the latter stages of AFCON 2025 but narrowly missed out on a place in the final after losing 4–2 on penalties to host nation Morocco in the semi-finals.
The encounter ended 0–0 after extra time at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, before Morocco secured victory in the shootout.
Rabiu encouraged the players to remain confident and focused, expressing belief that the lessons learned from the tournament would lead to greater success in future competitions.
