Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has voiced his support for VAR (Video Assistant Referee) but called for a simplification of the system following a costly error in Liverpool's recent match against Tottenham.
In that game, Liverpool was wrongly denied a goal due to an error by the VAR operator, Darren England. Pochettino expressed his trust in VAR but emphasized that the problem lies with the individuals operating it. He suggested that the technology should be simplified to make it more efficient.
Pochettino proposed keeping VAR for offside and goal-line decisions while leaving other on-pitch decisions to the referee and assistants. He stressed the importance of returning more power to the referee.
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou acknowledged that Liverpool had a legitimate goal wrongly disallowed due to the mistake and called for understanding toward the human errors that can occur in such situations.
