In an official press release issued on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, Senator Bassey Otu, the Governor of Cross River State, has implemented a comprehensive ban on all commercial motorcyclists, commonly known as Okada riders, operating within the Calabar metropolis.
The decision aims to enhance safety and security during river crossings. The Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Emmanuel Ogbeche, confirmed that the Governor consulted with key Security Chiefs in the State before issuing the directive.
However, individuals seeking to utilize motorcycles for livelihood purposes are permitted solely in rural areas, situated away from the city centers.
