Those who burnt Aguata LG not from Anambra -- Gov Soludo reveals identities of arsonists

The arsonists that destroyed Ekwulobia, the seat of the state's Aguata Local Government Area, are not from Anambra State, according to Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

On Thursday, attackers burned down the LG secretariat, as well as shops and vehicles parked in the neighborhood.

According to Governor Soludo, the incident was carried out by fleeing criminals who were pursued by Nigerian security personnel from their operational camp and hideout.

Military operations near the Aguluezechukwu and Ogborji communities in the Local Government, he said, had resulted in the dislodging of criminal elements who had been operating in the area for over two years.

The governor regretted why certain Igbos choose to injure themselves, revealing that the arsonists come from other states in the Southeast.

He said "They were smoked out, the camp destroyed and as they were fleeing cowardly, they decided to set the Local Government Secretariat ablaze but thank God the police came on time and smoked them out.

"From the statistics so far, 85 per cent of people arrested come from one of the states in the South East and the remaining 15 per cent from another state in the Southeast. It is really our people doing this to themselves."
