An irate mob allegedly thrashed a 27-year-old man named Darlington Ugboaja after a local substance, Methamphetamine, also known as Mkpuru mmiri, was discovered on him.
The man was beaten to death in Anara market in Imo state, causing panic and forcing traders to shut their doors for fear of retaliation from the victim's kinsmen.
According to an unnamed source, the victim lost consciousness when other youngsters were administering jungle justice on him, and he was pronounced dead when brought to a hospital for resuscitation.
"They observed him coming out of a bunk where narcotics are peddled," the person added. They suspected he was in possession of Mkpurummiri.
"They searched him promptly and discovered the drug. They immediately began hitting him after tiring his hands on an electric pole.
"He went unconscious and was brought to Anara Health Centre, but there was no doctor on duty." They transported him to Umunachi Hospital, where he was pronounced dead."
Ugboaja's death had left the Ezihe community devastated, according to Kingsley Onyewuenyi, a deceased kinsman.
According to Micheal Abattam, the command's police spokeswoman, the incident had not been reported to any police station in the state.
