The bodies of eight children were discovered in a Honda SUV parked on Adelayo Street in the Jah-Michael neighborhood of Lagos State's Badagry Expressway.
A video taken shortly after the victims' bodies were discovered shows their bodies lying lifeless on the ground.
Mamod, Aisha, Zainab, Farida, Yakubu, Tayab, Wahab, and another person are believed to have taken refuge inside the truck.
The youngsters could die from asphyxiation or severe heat in six to eight hours, according to Dr Oluwajimi Sodipo, a consultant family physician at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja.
He suggested that an autopsy, which would include a toxicology test, be performed on the victims to determine the cause of death.
CP Hakeem Odumosu, the Commissioner of Police, has ordered a thorough and prompt investigation into the circumstances behind their deaths.
The CP also expresses its condolences to the families of the children who have died. Dr. Sodipi recommended that the country's child protection services be strengthened.
The number of children in the vehicle; because, in addition to the oxygen that will be brought in, the longer they stay inside, the more carbon dioxide will be produced, which will build up over time.
