Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, a Special Counsel to IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, has provided insight into the IPOB leader's last court appearance on Wednesday.

"That Mazi Kanu be afforded maximum comfort possible in the detention institution," the court stated, according to Ejimakor. That he be given the opportunity to reform."

The lawyer stated in a statement that there were no security operators in the courtroom or around the perimeters during the session, as had been the case in previous proceedings.

Mazi Kanu was also not in court, according to Ejimakor, and no person from the Department of State Service was present to explain why.

However, based on his speculations, the court and the DSS may have concluded that his attendance in court was not strictly essential in the type of application that was brought before the court today.

Kanu's legal team was also denied leave to pursue their application challenging the court's jurisdiction to continue the trial, according to the lawyer.

"Recall that we had filed such motion, contending that Kanu's extraordinary rendition constitutes a constitutional hurdle to his trial," the statement continued.

The application was not scheduled for hearing today, according to the court. It will be heard at the next adjourned hearing date.

"The court, after reviewing what it described as a busy judicial calendar, pushed out the date of the next hearing from January 19th to January 18th, 2022."

The court determined that all outstanding applications will be heard at the next hearing date, and then issued the following orders: Mazi Kanu be given the most comfortable confinement facility feasible. That he be permitted to change his clothes."

The lawyer went on to say that the court has given the IPOB leader permission to practice his Jewish beliefs.

"That he be let to freely exercise his Jewish faith, including access to his Jewish religious literature," Ejimakor continued.

The DSS must follow all previous orders in the case, including allowing Kanu to have any visitor he wants.

Kanu be allowed to associate freely with other inmates or visitors at the jail institution at his discretion."
