In a radio interview with Flo Fm yesterday, Barr. Eze Chikamnayo, the Commissioner of Information and Strategy, made it clear that the Abia State Government owes workers in its Ministries and core agencies nothing.
However, he stated that workers in parastatals in Abia State may be owed. He bemoaned the massive underperformance of these parastatals, which were established by the government as profit-making entities that were supposed to be self-sufficient and self-sustaining.
He went on to say that these parastals, which are supposed to be viable sources of revenue for the state, are currently overstaffed and rely heavily on government subvention for their day-to-day operations.
Barr. Eze Chikamnayo expressed his displeasure with this trend, stating that these parastals must go back to the drawing board to figure out how to make their operations as profitable and value-based as their privately owned counterparts, as the Government of Abia is under no obligation to continue paying their numerous employees.
