Following the suspension of construction work in all Government-owned markets, with the exception of Ahia-Ohuru and Ariaria, the Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Chief John Okiyi Kalu, has now announced the cancellation of all illegal levies in the various markets.
In a meeting with the chairmen of all the markets in his office today, he made the announcement.
Okiyi reiterated that Abia is looking for investors and that his ministry is eager to collaborate with them.
He however warned that government will not tolerate illegal market structures, urging investors to seek approval from the Ministry.
Speaking further, Okiyi stated that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has approved for palliative work to be executed along Faulks road and also the construction of Umueze road for smooth access to Ariaria and Ubani market respectively.

He assured the traders in Ariaria International Market that the reconstruction of the shops will be completed as agreed.
In his speech, the Permanent Secretary Chief Sir Micheal Egwu admonished the chairmen to recognize the ministry as their foremost authority, stating that the Ministry will continue to support and provide solutions as demanded.
Earlier in his address, the chairman of all the chairmen who is equally the chairman of Goodshed market, Mr Nwanneakom George thanked the Governor for his efforts in promoting Made in Abia goods.
