The retail eNaira speed wallet was removed from the Google Play Store less than 48 hours after it was released, but the eNaira merchant wallet, which is designed for corporations or businesses, is still active and has over 10,000 downloads on the Google Play Store.
A senior management source at the CBN said that it is just an upgrade procedure ongoing.
"The Apple version is up and running, even on the play store, the Merchant wallet is up.
"These are mere technical procedures and they will be sorted and restored in no time. The upgrade is for the individual or retail user of the Google play store app."
The central bank also denied reports that the eNaira platform crashed 48 hours after President Muhammadu Buhari launched it.
Mr. Osita Nwanisobi, CBN Director Corporate Affairs said: "There’s an upgrade going on at the moment by Google. Try in the next few hours. That’s the position and will be up shortly."
Beware of Fraudsters
Nwanisobi denied that the CBN is giving out free N50 billion in eNaira to Nigerians, despite the apex bank's warning against fraudsters.
The CBN stated that the messages circulating about the finance minister disbursing N50 billion were intended to defraud innocent and unsuspecting members of the public via the links attached to the messages.
"In effect, the Bank is not disbursing eNaira currency to citizens. To this end, members of the public are hereby warned to be wary of fraudsters who Have resolved to take advantage of unsuspecting Nigerians."
