We'll do everything we can to eliminate insecurity and bring criminals to justice – Buhari

 

President Muhammadu Buhari has assured Nigerians that his administration is doing everything in its power to apprehend those responsible for the current agitation in Plateau.

According to NAN, the president offered the promise in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu.

The President, on the other hand, insisted that in order to succeed, communities must band together in the face of these heinous crimes.

He also pushed religious, traditional, and other community leaders to preach peace rather than incite violence from their positions.

According to him, security officers are being deployed to volatile villages in Plateau State to protect lives and property.

"Simplistic theorizing and finger-pointing, on the contrary, exacerbate the problem. It is critical for Nigerians and the world community to recognize that these problems are caused by a variety of factors.

"While some international voices and some Nigerian politicians seeking selfish personal advantage from divide call the herder-farmer confrontations a religious issue, the conflict is solely about access to water and land for those engaged.

"When IPOB attacks police stations and property further away in the South-East, they are not fighting for independence; rather, they are conducting acts of terrorism in order to steal money.

"They are also not protecting Christians, as their well-paid foreign lobbyists claim, but rather because IPOB's lobbyists deceived them, as some misinformed foreign journalists and politicians believe.

"Nigerians, on the other hand, must band together. And we must do it in two ways: first, by tearing apart those who seek to divide us for their own financial and political advantage, and second, by putting an end to those who seek to divide us for their own financial and political gain "According to the statement.
