Venus Williams has also withdrawn from the US Open, following in the footsteps of her sister Serena Williams.
Venus Williams has withdrawn from the 2018 US Open owing to injury, becoming the third American woman to do so after Serena Williams and Sofia Kenin.
The former world No. 1, announced the news in a video on social media. "Serena and I have some bad news for you today.
She said that she would be joining @serenawilliams, @RafaelNadal, and @rogerfederer on the injury list. "I, too, will be unable to compete in the US Open.
It's a huge letdown because I've been suffering leg problems all summer and haven't been able to find a solution."
The 41-year-old, who has won seven Grand Slam titles, expressed her disappointment at not being able to compete in her "favorite slam" and wished the other players well.
