Samuel Ogbonna, the man who cancelled his planned wedding to his fiancée, Gift Oriaku Ezinne, in Abia State, has explained that he made the decision because he believed it was not God’s will for them to get married.
Ogbonna explained his position in a message addressed to friends and acquaintances following the cancellation of the wedding, which had been scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 19, 2026.
According to him, he decided to speak publicly to thank God for the journey and experiences he had gained throughout the situation, as well as for the strength he said he received during the difficult period.
Ogbonna said he and Gift shared a romantic relationship and had also developed a strong friendship. He added that they had gone “very far” together in their commitment to serving God and humanity.
However, he said he had reached the conviction that their relationship would not end in marriage because he believed that it was not God’s will for them to become husband and wife.
Ogbonna stated that if it were God’s will for him to marry Gift, he believed that nothing could have prevented the marriage from taking place.
He also addressed Gift affectionately as “Mama Gift” and encouraged her to remain strong and courageous following the decision.
While explaining his position, Ogbonna expressed appreciation for the relationship they shared and wished Gift well in the future.
He further expressed his belief that she would eventually find a husband and encouraged her to remain hopeful despite the unexpected end to their planned marriage.
The wedding cancellation had attracted significant attention after Ogbonna initially announced the development just one day before the scheduled ceremony, describing the circumstances at the time as “irreconcilable developments.”
His latest statement provides a more specific explanation from his perspective, with Ogbonna now saying that his decision was based on his conviction about God’s will for the relationship.
